Tribalj is a charming village of some 600 souls on the Vinodol coastal area of Northern Croatia. It lies in the hinterland of Crikevenica and dates back to Roman times. The best places to stay in Tribalj offer the visitor a sense of rustic tranquillity and an ideal locus for exploring the surrounding country.
Crikevenica is the largest settlement locally and is named after the church of the monastery of the Pauline fathers who founded it in 1412.
More recently, from the late 18th century, the town became the main centre on the Vinodol coast. In 1877 the harbour was built and thus began a lively tourist trade with many elegant hotels, a bathing beach and hydropathic establishment. It remains a beautiful part of the North Adriatic coast.
Tribalj is particularly noted as a paragliding centre and attracts enthusiasts from all over the world. It is also, however, a great place to simply come and enjoy the walking, hiking and cycling in the lush Mediterranean landscape.
