About Domme

A picturesque village in south-western France's fascinating Dordogne region, Domme sits on a rocky outcrop, 250 metres above sea level. Once a fortified medieval stronghold, the village boasts beautiful Dordogne Valley views, and a good range of historic accommodation options for couples, families or groups. Whether you're dreaming of a low-key farmhouse escape or a chic adults-only getaway, our pick of the best places to stay in Domme has it all.

Brimming with heritage landmarks, Domme is a brilliant base for keen cultural explorers. Life centres on the Place de la Halle, and visitors can amble along ancient ramparts, following the original trapeziod city plan. Step through the old town gates, see the Maison du Gouverneur and admire the Church of Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption or the Lavoir de Domme. Graffitti carved by the Knights Templar during their 14th-century imprisonment in the towers of the Porte des Tours is fascinating, as is a trip into the enormous Grotte de Domme, a cave complex where residents sheltered during the Second World War.

Views from the Belvédère de la Barre are well worth the hike or mountain bike trip, and you can sail, kayak or swim in Dordogne River and tributaries below. Return to one of the best places to stay in Domme for delicious regional cuisine after big days out!
