Hohenlohe is a district in northern Baden-Wurttemberg, named after the family - or 'Princely Dynasty' - who used to own most of the area, and still own a good proportion of it.
One of their most recent princes was brother in law to Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh. Some of the Hohenlohe family castles, still their seats, are now also some of the region's most interesting visitor attractions.
Hohenlohe also benefits from being close to modern, but historic, Stuttgart, beautiful Heidelberg and Ulm, with its medieval architecture. The whole region is also ripe for outdoor exploration during the summer months. Maybe even by bike?
