Huesca is Aragón's truly charming capital, small enough so that it exists on provincial time, with long siestas and long evenings to match, yet large enough so that the best places to stay in Huesca includes a great range of options. As well as being a great base for exploring the pretty stone pueblos and Romanesque cities of Aragon, Huesca is considered the gateway to the Pyrenees. The views are spectacular all year round, but Huesca itself is better in the summer - August is fiesta season.
While the majority of Huesca city's highlights can be found in the old town, around the interesting looking cathedral, built in a mish mash of styles, some of the best local sights can only be reached on foot, or mountain bike - or 4x4 if you're lucky - but that's part of the provincial charm of the place.
