South of this area is the San Antonio Museum of Art with collections from Ancient Greece, Rome, Egypt and South America. In addition you'll find Asian art and contemporary American and Texan art plus special exhibitions.
San Antonio's iconic fort, The Alamo (a World Heritage Site commemorating the tragedy and heroism of the siege which was a turning point in the struggle for Texan independence from Mexico), is an absolute must-see.
South of San Antonio the River Walk is being extended with hiking and cycling trails which run through woodland and riverbank habitats, and access four stone-built 18th century Spanish colonial missions. Further out of town are horse riding stables, offering trail rides to riders of all ages and experience levels.
