Mombasa, East Africa's oldest harbour city is the coastal hub, north and south of which is highly developed but you can still find some exclusive and hidden gems dotted discreetly along the coastline. To the south of Mombasa is Diani Beach with its truly awe inspiring stretch of white powder beach and to the north, there are fantastic marine parks with a dizzying array of tropical fish, diving and big game fishing. Pick an island, Lamu or Manda Bay and you find both a strong Middle Eastern influence in the culture and architecture and some of the best bare foot luxury when you can relax and chill out after the rigours of big game viewing.
