Instead of rating the most romantic hotels in Yorkshire we’ve separated them into categories, so you can find great hotels for a romantic escape, recommendations for a special occasion and some excellent suggestions for romance on a budget.

For a Special Occasion

Black Swan at Helmsley

  • The Black Swan At Helmsley is an historic coaching inn turned smart hotel, with 45 rooms - some quirky, some traditional, some country-contemporary - a fine-dining restaurant, a pretty tea room and a lovely walled garden.

For a Romantic Escape

Cleveland Tontine

  • Cleveland Tontine in Saddlebridge is a beautifully decorated 19th century house with seven elegant, individually designed rooms and a wonderful conservatory which speaks of Indian summers and afternoon tea.
  • The Wensleydale Heifer is an award-winning restaurant-with-rooms with 14 individually decorated and unusually themed bedrooms. There’s the James Herriot Room, 007, Chocolate Heaven, the Black Sheep, Night at the Movies and the Champagne suite, to name a few. The restaurant is excellent but if you fancy something a bit less fussy there’s also a less formal fish bar.
  • The Boar’s Head Hotel, on the Ripley Castle Estate near Harrogate, is an old coaching inn filled with antiques, art and other treasures. There are 25 elegant rooms and a choice of both formal and bistro dining. The views are amazing and you’re close to the 14th century castle.

For Foodies

The Pheasant

  • Perfect for walkers, The Pheasant, on the tip of the North York Moors National Park, is a tastefully converted blacksmith with 12 rooms arranged around a charming central courtyard complete with fruit trees. There’s also an indoor pool and an award-winning restaurant.
  • The White Hart Hotel is an impressive, Grade II listed Georgian house in the smartest quarter of Harrogate, with 61 spacious, elegant rooms, decorated in a range of styles from contemporary to traditional. It has the restaurants to match too, one relaxed and one fine dining, but both are excellent.

Romantic Hotels with Hot Tubs

Feversham Arms Hotel

  • If you’re looking for a village setting then The Feversham Arms Hotel & Vebena Spa in Helmsley is a good choice. There are 33 rooms, and the hot tub is shared between them, but it’s a glorious wooden outdoor affair surrounded by a ‘spa garden’. There’s also a fabulous heated outdoor pool and an award-winning spa. The restaurant is also supposed to be very good.
  • On the outskirts of York, just two miles from the city centre, Middlethorpe Hall & Spa is a 17th century mansion owned by the National Trust. Its hot tub is part of the well equipped spa, which also has a large pool, sauna, steam room and offers a range of treatments. In addition there's an award-winning 2 AA Rosette restaurant.
  • For a country house hotel with a hot tub, try The Devonshire Arms Hotel & Spa, just outside the borders of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Previously the coaching inn for the Duke of Devonshire's Bolton Abbey estate, The Devonshire Arms is now a sophisticated hotel with colourful decor, a top notch 3AA Rosette fine dining restaurant and a pampering spa.
  • Swinton Park Hotel in Masham also has a great spa complete with a hot tub. Plus they have a cooking school, and offer loads of activities, like archery, croquet and cycling. The building itself is a castle and the accommodation is in 31 large, individually decorated rooms with chintzy fabrics and plenty of luxurious details.
