The fourth in the stable of excellent hotels headed by Calcot Manor is to open in late April.
Called The Painswick (thepainswick.co.uk) after the Cotswold village in which it is located, it will join its siblings Calcot Manor and Barnsley House, both also in the Cotswolds, and the Lord Crewe Arms in Northumberland.
Doubtless the fine 18th century stone mansion is being given a sympathetic and elegant makeover. I hope so, anyway; called Cotswold 88, it was previously one of the most idiosyncratic and wacky hotels, with an extraordinarily flamboyant owner, that I have ever stayed in. Under new ownership, expect calm, stylish contemporary luxury and a welcome new address for weekend getaways.comments powered by Disqus
