Hotel Review

Glamour is the watchword at the Dorchester’s sister hotel, a fabulously modern hotel with an Art Deco twist. Its Thierry Despont-designed interiors include a stunning dark-wood lobby and lounge with distinctive chandeliers by Brand van Egmond. It’s where the smart set mingle over cocktails before heading to Wolfgang Puck’s in-house steak restaurant Cut for a sirloin while gazing at the Damian Hirst artworks. The hotel’s 45 rooms and suites, all with views over Hyde Park, boast a colour palette of rich earth tones and sensuous fabrics that ooze retro-chic appeal. State-of-the-art gadgetry includes giant Bang & Olufsen flat-screen TVs that turn toward the viewer, iPads in every room and a touch-screen phone that operates curtains, lights and TVs. Bedrooms feature walls of dark wood with beds that are invitingly large and firm. The bathrooms, with lush products by Aromatherapy Associates, are gleaming oases in marble, boasting mirror-mounted TVs, deep baths and giant walk-in showers. Breakfasts in the lounge overlooking Park Lane are deliciously haute, including eggs with truffle emulsion and Parmesan polenta. A sleek hotel with a younger and more masculine feel than close relative The Dorchester, 45 Park Lane delivers the same attention to detail and top-notch service. A destination for those seeking modern luxury and glamour in the heart of Mayfair.
