| A late 19th-century school is home to Amsterdam’s latest hip hotel. The name also refers to the fact that it is staffed by students, overseen by an eagle-eyed team of professionals from the excellent Stein Group of hotels. Its award-winning design by local architects, F.G. Stijl, is stunning, incorporating the old with the new and the bold: classrooms are now stylish bedrooms, and the gym one of the city’s most talked-about restaurants. |

THEY SAY: The College Hotel is owned by the ROC Amsterdam and founded as a training hotel for the exceptional students of the Amsterdam Hotel Management School, Bakery and Tourism. A team of young professional managers with an extensive background in the hotel industry will guide these exceptional students in the daily operations of the hotel. The aim of the hotel is to provide the international hotel industry with new professional talent, trained in a conceptional well-designed, small boutique hotel. The College Hotel’s forty luxurious rooms and suites have each been individually designed to maintain their own identity. Elegant fabrics and colours were chosen to accent warm nurturing tones, and all rooms are characterised by a harmonious blending of black with shades of brown and sandy colours. Bathrooms are finished with chic, subtle details including exclusively designed washbasin furniture in black French polish with brown marble and chrome legs and ZenZone amenities. The College Hotel restaurant is a free-standing restaurant located in the former school gymnasium. Here, famed chef Schilo van Coevorden and his team pay tribute to the Golden age of Dutch cuisine by honouring classics from the past from a contemporary perspective, resulting in a surprising culinary experience. The Lounge, with its dark, warm colours, black oak floors, catwalk, fireplace and intimate corners, invites you to dress up and enjoy the hotel bar, which is dedicated to elegance and commited to the creation of exquisitely mixed cocktails.
