| A perfect Devon hideaway, smothered in wistaria. After an excellent breakfast, spend the day on Exmoor, returning for tea and homemade cake in the homely sitting room. Enjoy dinner in the candlelit dining room, then tuck up in one of the five comfortable bedrooms. Bliss. New owners, Martin French and Melanie McKnight, have recently taken over from Alasdair Kameen; we trust that standards will remain has high as ever. |

THEY SAY: Quietly located in a beautiful stretch of the Exe valley stands The Bark House. This cottage-style guest house oozes charm and character. The building is covered in Wisteria; in late Spring, grape-like bunches of mauve and white flowers swarm the front of the house.
The accommodation is arranged with thought for your comfort. The bedrooms are furnished to a high standard with many thoughtful extras, including fresh flowers from the garden and a selection of magazines. The low-beamed dining room is elegant and romantic, with flickering candle light; light classical music plays softly in the background. A real log fire soothes you whilst you relax in the cosy lounge.
All food is cooked by the proprietor, Alastair, who is a largely self-taught cook. Strong emphasis is placed on sourcing produce from high-quality West Country suppliers. Most fish comes from Cornwall whilst meat comes from a handful of known local farms. Breakfasts are treated seriously, too.
