OUR BUILDING
The Scotsman hotel is housed within the magnificent Scotsman newspaper building. While the newspaper has long since moved out, the building's restoration was careful not to eradicate the stunning wooden paneled reception room that is now our bar and brasserie which served Edinburgh elite, hotel guests and those 'in the know' sumptuous meals and exotic cocktails each and every day.
OUR GUESTS When you are running a luxury hotel, it is important to ensure that guests feel that they can trust staff to be discreet. Believe us, we see a lot of things that would make Hello! magazine shiver with excitement. We'd love to tell you the one about the Head of State who stayed with us and what he got up to. How about the story of just how that world famous hip-hop star thanked us, personally, one at a time. Even how we arranged for two competing business tycoons to stay on the same night and never know about the other... but we can't, no really we can't. Thing is, we'd love to, but we wouldn't completely trust us would you?
THE STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN
In the Scotsman building there were 105 separate offices which neatly converted to fabulous hotel rooms. But one thing was designed purely to impress: the stunning marble staircase. So valuable was it that only the elite of the organisation were allowed to set foot upon it. Staff whispered of its beauty, of the sound that shoe leather made as the Editor ascended to his office. Still, the staff were allowed a yearly tantalizing glimpse as they assembled on it every Remembrance Day for the company photograph.
