| A superb example of a family-run (now third generation) country house hotel: a stunning location; caring, hands-on management; unpretentious yet with high standards. With lovely terrace views, the Victorian Italianate house stands in large exotic grounds above the Usk, with its own salmon and trout fishing. Inside: smart yet relaxed, traditional yet stylish, with excellent food. Perennially popular. |

THEY SAY: Gliffaes makes the ideal base for you to explore this magic part of the Brecon Beacons National Park, South Wales. Summer is a wonderful time to get out into the countryside and the variety of walking in the hills around the hotel will keep you occupied for sometime! Alternatively, you may wish for nothing more than a lazy lunch on the sunny terrace with a bottle of wine, followed by a walk along the river and afternoon tea. Then round off the day with a great dinner and early bed; heaven. Gliffaes has 23 bedrooms, all are individually decorated and furnished and all have private bathrooms, a number of which are twin bedded. All rooms have private bathrooms. The rooms are priced according to size and view, the best rooms all have spectacular views across the Usk valley, while the others all look over our magnificent grounds. Being in the middle of a National Park and surrounded by farmland that is not intensively farmed means we have access to some especially good meat, lamb and beef in particular. Moving into autumn & winter we enjoy the best of game; partridge, pheasant and venison. 2007 has been the start of us growing vegetables for the hotel - all be it on a small scale at present. The Hotel has been awarded an AA Rosette for its cooking for the 8th year in a row. As a member of the 'Slow Food Movement', a global organization dedicated to regional food and local producers, Gliffaes attempts to source 65% of its fresh produce from within 50 miles of the hotel.
