Hotel Overview

“Set in an attractive residential area of the old Burmese capital, this low-key B&B is quiet and yet still a stone’s throw from the famous Shwedagon Pagoda and other major sites. The owners are French – and you can tell. Guest rooms are simple but very tasteful, with pale-yellow walls, amber curtains, bamboo shutters, paper lanterns, rattan furniture, bright original artworks and vibrant throws. There are no minibars or TVs (who needs those in Yangon anyway?) but rooms have air-conditioning, kettles, tea and coffee. Bathrooms are small and a little drab but made up for by the owners’ attention to detail – the lacquerware pot of cotton buds on the basin, a cool, quirky bamboo towel hanging rail, bars of Paris soap and potted plants. The bar and restaurant, in a large open-sided wooden structure, is one of the city’s best French restaurants, but also serves great local dishes. There’s a little garden at one end, where you can enjoy your complimentary breakfast (yoghurt, fruit, muesli, homemade bread, eggs) under crimson parasols surrounded by exotic plants.”
