Amirandes Anissaras, Greece

“A palace fit for the legendary King Minos himself. Villas boast private pools, white on white decor and huge picture windows. Choice of nine casual and fine dining restaurants and bars. Lots of activities for couples and families.”

“This opulent low-rise complex echoes the palace architecture of the Minoan empires or perhaps ancient Egypt. Palms, reflecting pools and waterfalls set the scene on arrival. Colonnades link bungalows and villa suites – some with private pools and palm-shaded gardens – with the central hotel building and bars, restaurants, shops and pools. There's a semi-private sandy beach where you can lounge in your own white canvas gazebo, and brightly coloured animal figures dotted around the lawns add a playful note. Great food from all over the world in nine restaurants and bars, including contemporary-Italian Minotaur, graced by original Picasso ceramics, a floating deck in a vast infinity pool, and the laid-back Sunset Lounge. The Elixir spa pampers with Ayurvedic treatment. Location, a 10-15 minute ride from the airport and 20 minutes from ancient Knossos, is a plus. Perfect for a luxurious short break for couples and families.”
