Archangel Somerset

“A chic and sophisticated restaurant with rooms in the quaint town of Frome. Contemporary rooms still feature exposed beams and stone yet new frescoes and freestanding baths now hold centre stage. A wonderfully renovated restaurant serves exemplary cuisine. Great for a weekend away.”

“Simon Waterfield’s dramatic transformation of a notorious coaching inn into a chic and sophisticated restaurant with rooms, is a wake-up call for the market town of Frome and a serious challenge to glamorous rivals in nearby Bath. The attention to style is evident in the beautifully lit restaurant; the minimalist bedrooms, with freestanding hip baths; the rich colours and occasional guardian angels on the walls. There is a private dining room, an opulent library and intimate bars. The local staff are friendly and the imaginative English cuisine tastes as good as it looks.”

"Parts of the Archangel date from 1311, but now this venerable old coaching inn has been turned into a quirky ten-room boutique hotel, with an offbeat feel."

Archangel Hotel

"Architect Piers Taylor has preserved the ancient beams and walls and put them on show, conserving their patina and leaving them largely unadorned to speak eloquently for themselves."
