“Balmuirfield House is a hidden gem on the outskirts of Dundee. This Victorian villa has been transformed into a luxury bed and breakfast by owners Morag and Stuart who have years of experience in the hospitality trade. The bedrooms have been luxuriously finished with beautiful fabrics and antique furniture. Each is individually designed with inspirations from Charles Rennie Mackintosh (think Scots Baronial) to French colonial. Breakfast is served around a communual dining table with lovely views over the gardens. Balmuirfield offers a luxury oasis just a stone's throw from the city centre and is the perfect destination whether you're here for a spot of local exploring or to channel your inner Rory McIlroy on the many great golf courses nearby.”

“Why do people love staying in your hotel?
A combination of factors make a stay with us at Balmuirfield House a memorable one. But we start by getting the most important two things right for those staying at our Bed and Breakfast. That being; bed and breakfast. A great nights sleep in a comfortable bed with luxury bedding in a tastefully decorated room that combines a fusion of period and modern furnishings. Add to that our belief of using as little chemicals as possible within the house and only using eco toiletries we promote a healthier sleeping environment. Finally a house that is very quiet at night although it’s only 3 miles to the city centre. Country living, City location. Then to breakfast as we take great pride in offering our guests a fantastic choice of healthy, hearty and local delicacies for the breakfast table.
What is there to do in the area?
Balmuirfield is situated in an area with great attractions and excellent road links to Fife, Angus, Perthshire and beyond. Located on the northern edge of Dundee, the waterfront development and the future arrival of the V&A certainly has the city in a buzz of excitement. But there are plenty attractions here already such as the MacManus galleries, Verdant Works, the Rep Theatre and Captain Scott’s Discovery. We are only 20 minutes from Glamis castle; the childhood home of the Queen Mother. There are some wonderful beaches in the area such as Lunan Bay and Tentsmuir. Half an hour in the car takes you to St Andrews, Arbroath and Perth.
What kind of breakfast do you offer?
Start the morning with a choice of organic fresh fruit and juices, yoghurts, parfaits, muesli, cereals and granola. Freshly brewed coffee or tea, followed by a choice of cooked options. The Full Scottish is always available - butchers sausages, haggis, black pudding, mushrooms, bacon, tomato and eggs anyway you like. We always have a few fish options such as Hot Smoked salmon, Arbroath Smokies or mackerel. Pancakes for those with a sweeter tooth. We specialise in Wheat Free and Gluten Free options for those with alternative diets.
Do you offer other meals? And can you recommend good places to eat out locally?
Only breakfast here but there are lots of great restaurants in the Dundee area. Most notably, Castlehill has recently won the best restaurant at Food Awards Scotland.
Which are your most popular room types, and why?
All of our rooms are individual and have their own appeal. The four poster rooms offer romantic nights away, Our "Auld Alliance" room benefits from a seven foot cast iron tub. The size and decor in our “Roberts” room is always a winner with our visitors.
What message would you like to give Hotel Guru readers?
Come and stay! We are a warm, welcoming family business which loves to make our guests feel at home and give them a great Scottish experience.”
