Photo of Canal House

“Maintaining the feel of its original 17th century merchants’ home setting, the slick Canal House retains characterful original features such as ornate ceilings and fireplaces, but also, in its newly renovated guise, adds 21st century glamour and comfort. Its new owners are British group Curious Hotels, who also own Cowley Manor in Gloucestershire and L’Hotel in Paris, and they have employed modish design company Concrete to rethink the interiors. They’ve used the chiaroscuro palette of traditional Dutch genre paintings, some examples of which can be found adorning bedroom walls. Divided into five types, from Good to Best, the bedrooms have all the amenities you’d expect, including the sometimes troublesome open-to-view bath and washbasin. But if you’re cool with baring all to your partner, then this is the new cool place to be. ”
