Photo of Grotta Azzura

“Across the street from Palazzo Seneca and owned by the same caring family (as well as two other hotels in Norcia, one with fitness centre for the use of guests) the Grotta Azzura is the epitome of a simple, family-owned Italian hotel; indeed it has been run by the Bianconis since 1850. Rooms are plain, though with a certain old fashioned charm and very clean, and many have balconies with fine views of the Sybelline mountains. Staff are kind and ready to help with any problem. The vaulted 16th century dining room serves local gastronomy (Norcia is famous for black truffles and cured ham) in a homely style and a warm atmosphere. If Palazzo Seneca is too pricey, this is the place to stay in Norcia. ”

They say

“The oldest hotel of Norcia is situated on a side street of the ‘Corso’ 10 metres from the main square. Historically The Hotel Grotta Azzurra, that began as an Inn, is where the family Bianconi’s long tradition in the world of hospitality first started in 1850. The family atmosphere is the true character of this hotel in Norcia as are the beautiful 16th century rooms with their arched vaulted ceiling that host the Hotel’s renowned restaurant. The rooms are all different, a feature of many hotels in historic centres. There is something for everybody, from large rooms with Jacuzzis to the smaller rooms with small terraces that look out onto the Sibylline mountains or the roofs toward the St Francis auditorium.”
