Grotta Azzurra Umbria, Italy

“Warm and welcoming town hotel with a long family heritage - a quintessential Italian family-owned stay. Charmingly old-fashioned rooms with balconies and views of the mountains. Fantastic restaurant and plenty of activities to keep all entertained. A well priced base to explore Umbria.”

“Across the street from Palazzo Seneca and owned by the same caring family (as well as two other hotels in Norcia, one with fitness centre for the use of guests) the Grotta Azzura is the epitome of a simple, family-owned Italian hotel; indeed it has been run by the Bianconis since 1850. Rooms are plain, though with a certain old fashioned charm and very clean, and many have balconies with fine views of the Sybelline mountains. Staff are kind and ready to help with any problem. The vaulted 16th century dining room serves local gastronomy (Norcia is famous for black truffles and cured ham) in a homely style and a warm atmosphere. If Palazzo Seneca is too pricey, this is the place to stay in Norcia. ”

They say

“Why do people love staying in your hotel?
People love staying in our hotels for their central position, their comforts and cozy rooms. Our aim is to satisfy every need of our guests through our helpful staff and let them soak up the athmosphere and traditions of Norcia, thanks to authentic experiences and our famous food.

What is there to do in the area?
Norcia is a land full of traditions right in the hearth of Sibillini National Park with a wide offer of activities to do. From the sport activities like rafting and trekking to the gastronomic experiences like cooking classes or truffle hunting, from the spirituality to authentic experiences to discover what make renowned this place.

What kind of breakfast do you offer?
We offer a continental breakfast characterized by traditional and local products.

Do you offer other meals? And can you recommend good places to eat out locally?
We have 3 different restaurants in Norcia, the well known Vespasia restaurant (1 Michelin star) famous for its gourmet cuisine, the Granaro del Monte restaurant, the oldest restaurant of Umbria, famous for its traditional cuisine and the Enoteca Granaro del Monte placed in the main street of the city, where you can have a sample of all the famous cold meats and cheeses with umbrian wines or beers.

Which are your most popular room types, and why? Since our Grotta Azzurra Hotel has been obtained from old palaces, each room is unique and different from the others. The most popular rooms are the deluxe rooms bigger than the others and some with hydro-massage bath tube.

What facilities do you have for children and can you fit extra beds in your rooms?
Our principal guests are family with children thanks to our dedicated offer and services like the 2 swimming pool, the entertainment for adults and children, the picnic area and the adventure activities. Most of our rooms are suitable to contain extra beds.

What message would you like to give Hotel Guru readers?
Our History is a Love history for our job and our city that renews itself from 4 generations. Our aim is to give to our guests the best experience possible in this land rich of experiences.”
