Hazelwood House South Devon

“Quirky, rural country house with good organic food and a warm welcoming atmosphere, set in peaceful valley close to the South Devon coast. Individual rooms are bright and comfortable - some have majestic views. Come here to recharge the batteries and appreciate rural Devon.”

Photo of Hazelwood House

“Reached by a long sweeping drive, this imposing, early Victorian wisteria-clad house sits in 67 acres of unspoilt South Devon countryside and has been lovingly managed by the same owners for over 25 years. Bought in 1988 on a whim, the hotel has a timeless, informal feel, like staying in someone’s home. It’s a real hideaway, in a forgotten valley with ancient trees and a river running through. Individually decorated bedrooms are colourful and comfortable and some have majestic views (not all the rooms have an en suite bathroom - and some have tubs and showers, rather than standard baths). The restaurant serves delicious locally sourced and mostly organic food. Staff are discreet, friendly and unfailingly helpful. Fires are lit at night and there are plenty of places to sit and contemplate the peace - indoors or out on the verandah. Hazelwood House feels like a rarity these days - authentic, uncorporate and truly relaxing, with character and personality, all thanks to the people who put their heart and soul into keeping it this way.”
