Designed by Geoffrey Bawa, Sri Lanka’s most famous architect, this heritage hotel oozes tropical modernist luxury. The 85 spacious rooms boast views over the crashing waves of the Indian Ocean or the hotel’s coastal gardens — many have private balconies, whilst themed suites pay homage to historic travellers. Just minutes away by road, glorious UNESCO-listed Galle Fort awaits, with charming cafés, shops and restaurants aplenty. Hit the hotel gym, play a game of tennis or cool off in the two beautiful pools, before catching the sunset over the sea. Evenings here are pretty special: grab a drink at the Coat of Arms Bar, nab a pizza at Lorenzo’s or savour delicious dishes at the Cinnamon Room. The dedicated kid’s pool makes this a perfect family spot, whilst revitalising opportunities await at the superb spa.
