La Granica Piedmont (Fontanile), Italy

“Chic hotel amongst vineyards. Rooms inside the barn building are contemporary- high ceilings, Japanese-style four-poster bed, chandeliers and French windows. Outdoor pool, terrace and gardens. Elegant bar and sumptuous hotel lounge. Bohemian, authentic and relaxed. ”

“Owners Karen and Mark set out to offer a different type of Italian-vineyard hotel, and it is safe to say they have succeeded. From the outside, the rustic appeal is obvious, with limestone walls surrounding by vineyards and trees. Inside, however, it is modern, chic and minimalist. All the bedrooms are different, but all have polished wooden floors, lashings of light from enormous French windows, and bespoke furniture. The bathrooms are demonstrations of black and grey slate with rain showers. The gardens and outdoor pool are immaculate, with plenty of sunbeds and parasols. Breakfast and snacks are on offer, such as a Piedmont ploughman’s (with Gorgonzola cheese and Prosciutto), and the hotel is happy to advise or book local restaurants, and pretty much any other activity you would like to try. For Italian countryside stays, this is something a little different indeed. ”
