The Mykonos Theoxenia makes a welcome change. Built in the 1960s as one of a state-owned chain that has since been privatised, its architecture was daring at the time and still impresses, with proportions that echo ancient stoas and temples rather than village houses. Inside the low-rise stone buildings, the design influences in public areas and bedrooms are unashamedly 1960s-nostalgic.”
