Hotel Overview

“This stunning Arts and Crafts house, set high above the road leading into the Langdale Valley, and in five acres of grounds, was built as a private home in 1903 and has been carefully, and intelligently, restored by its current owners. Original features include oak floors and panelling, plasterwork ceiling friezes, huge leaded windows and carved oak fireplaces. Arts and Crafts or early 20th-century furniture is mixed with luxurious but low-key, contemporary sofas and curtains. The bedrooms and suites are similarly furnished, with the addition of French antique bedsteads and armoires in beautiful polished woods. Most are generous in size and with valley or woodland views. Some have fireplaces, three share a small terrace, all welcome with home-made cake.
Breakfast is a proper affair served with napkins and fresh flowers. Simple snacks can be ordered plus there’s a bar with a good choice of drinks. The owners have plenty of suggestions for nearby pubs and restaurants, although it’s not the best road for night-time walking. Spend the day pottering around Ambleside and Lake Windermere, or fell-walking in Langdale. Return to afternoon tea on the terrace. With two friendly dogs and a cat, it feels like (a posh) home-from-home.”
