Nonsuch House South Devon

“Charming guesthouse overlooking Dartmouth with great estuary views. The warm, elegant rooms have been lovingly decorated and boast Egyptian cotton sheets, fluffy towels and award winning views. Gourmet dinners offered four nights a week and cooking lessons are available. ”

“A very special guesthouse with four charming, warmly-decorated bedrooms and stunning views out to sea and over to Dartmouth. Occupying a tall slim house, it is a haven of peace despite the bustle of the river and town. Owner chef Kit Noble prepares a superb dinner four nights a week, using local fresh seasonal and organic ingredients, with (not surprisingly) an emphasis on seafood. He also produces award-winning breakfasts.
Telegraph recommends as one of the top 10 places to stay in the UK”

They say

“Why do people love staying with you? Because we are small, we can give our guests special service and individual attention. In an area of outstanding natural beauty, with views to die for, we can offer something special and memorable for everyone.

What is there to do in the area? Sailing, walking, shopping, art and craft, National Trust properties, fine dining, river watching, and much much more

What kind of breakfast do you offer? A breakfast fit for a King! Home-made cereals, freshly squeezed juices, home-made breads, marmalades, jams, stewed fruits, freshly made fruit salad, followed by a full English breakfast (or any part thereof) made with local bacon, sausages, black pudding, fresh farm eggs and vegetables or a special of something like locally smoked fish.

Do you offer other meals? And can you recommend good places to eat out locally? We offer dinner four nights a week which Kit cooks superbly. The menu is dependent on the guest and what is available locally on the day. Lots of good restaurants locally and very difficult to mention any one in particular as standing out but we recommend The Seahorse, Bushells, The Anchorstone, The Laughing Monk amongst others to our guests.

Which are your most popular room types, and why? We only have four rooms and all of them are popular as they all have every comfort and stunning views over the River Dart and out to sea.

What facilities do you have for children and can you fit extra beds in your rooms? We do not cater for children under the age of 10 as the house is built on a hill with big drops from the windows. If guests want we can put up a pull-me-down bed in their room for a child over the age of 10.

What message would you like to give Hotel Guru readers? We are so lucky to be situated in such a beautiful area close to so many amenities and are really pleased to be able to share this with our guests.
The guests are our priority and we want them to really enjoy staying here, and then leave wanting to return – again and again. We recently welcomed a couple back to us who have just booked their 40th return visit this Autumn”

"Why I love Devon" by Fiona Duncan.

If it’s the West Country you want, but Cornwall is too far, then Devon is the answer. Craggy coves and cream teas, surfing, hiking on Exmoor and Dartmoor and pints in pub gardens.
