Hotel Overview

“Originally built in Blenheim in 1901 for the Sisters of Mercy, over 80 years later Old Saint Mary's Convent was moved in five parts to Rapaura, where it was turned into a heritage hotel. The result is winning - five ecclesiastically named rooms (including the Sister Ancilla, Mother Superior and Chapel Suites) are a charming mix of grand Victorian architecture, modern luxury and romantic ambience. Clever restoration has ensured original features remain, such as a gorgeous carved staircase, high ceilings, rimu panelling and native timber floors, and even more character is added by religious antiques, Victorian furnishings and stained glass windows. Rooms open out on to the wraparound balcony with wicker chairs, the perfect spot for a sundowner (try some of the wine produced on the property) looking out over the glorious garden with lavender bushes, a lake and secret spots to catch the sun. Enjoy breakfast in the rectory, where food is made with produce from the garden and eggs from the chickens. There are over 60 acres of park-like gardens, vineyards and olive groves to be explored by bike or on foot, or go further afield to the Queen Charlotte Track, watersport haven Marlborough Sounds and the award-winning Omake Aviation Heritage Centre. Modern luxury with a stunning historical backdrop.”
