“RAAS’ latest hospitality venture, Devigarh has undergone a stylish restoration. Breaking the mold of the usual royal palace that scatters the terrain of Rajasthan. Combining minimal modern design with some original features. Each of its 39 luxurious suites utilise white walls as a backdrop for unique décor. Using an abundance of marble, which Udaipur is famous for, in a stylish rather than ostentatious way: think solid marble baths, decorative wall carvings and bed-bases, it is utterly chic. Other traditional interiors include miniature paintings, famed throughout Rajasthan, bowls of fragrant petals and mother of pearl headboards. Bathrooms include complimentary Forest Essentials toiletries as standard. Some suites are split-level, some feature 180 views of the surrounding Aravalli hills, but all are palatial.
The hotel itself is a labyrinthine complex spread across across 14 floors (don’t worry, there’s a lift). A wander round the property unearths yet further rooms and courtyards. There is even an original 18th century swing as well as fabulour rooftop dining hall, billiards room, croquet lawn and plenty more surprises. More modern additions include an underground spa offering both Western and Ayurvedic treatments, using the finest ‘ila’ products. Although the ultimate indulgence has to be a glowing sauna made from pink Himalayan salt sauna!
There is an inviting pool offering stunning views further afield of villages, steaming greenery, wheat fields and mountains from the hotel’s magnificent vantage point.
The food is divine and a far better fare European fare than elsewhere in Rajasthan whilst the service bordering on overly attentive. But you will want for nothing! Refreshingly modern, definitely luxury, and very romantic.”
