“The boutique hotels along Santorini’s caldera clifftop are fabulous, but some – especially families – may find them a little restrictive. If you simply must be on the beach, head for this elegant, village-styled resort on the island’s east coast, next to a cheerful village-turned resort beside a long sweep of black sand (beware: it gets very hot under the midday sun). The Kastelli Resort has 59 rooms, so it’s neither poky nor overwhelmingly large, and two restaurants (it offers tastings of wines from its own vineyards every evening). There are also plenty of cheery tavernas nearby.”
