The Hack & Spade Yorkshire

“Old coaching inn turned cosy B&B situated in a beautiful Yorkshire valley. Individually designed rooms with sleek en-suites. Delicious seasonal, locally-sourced food in the restaurant. The perfect spot for a country escape and ideal for keen walkers.”

“If travelling north, south and want to break your journey, or if visiting the Yorkshire Dales you’ll find a welcome retreat at the Hack and Spade. This intriguing B&B lies in the heart of the peaceful York-stone hamlet of Whashton, free from streetlights and traffic sounds and minutes away from the Dales National Park. Apparently there has always been an Inn on this site and owner, Jane Ratcliffe, knows the history well. The property's character has been well preserved particularly in the cosy dining room featuring a log burning stove at each end and steps up to a small sitting room, where you can meet fellow guests for a welcome aperitif before dinner. The original Inn has been tastefully extended and now offers five comfortable and spacious rooms, decorated in subtle colours reflecting a Georgian heritage. All have roomy bathrooms with a wet room style rain shower, (no doors to restrict any soaping here!), and some with a deep bath tub too. The rooms at the back of the house - “Dakyn” and “Zetland” - have the most lovely views. Jane creates a tempting menu in the restaurant, all the ingredients are locally sourced with fresh fish coming in from the previous day’s catch at Whitby. Dinner is served from Thursday to Saturday leaving you free to explore the cuisine in the local area if you’re staying longer. The Yorkshire Dales provide the perfect setting for country walks and the time to create happy memories. Phone signals and wi-fi don’t fit that well with the location but then, hopefully you’re here to relax and this B&B enables you to do just that.”
