The Old Priory Somerset

“12th Century house turned restaurant with rooms is one of the oldest properties in Somerset let alone the quaint village of Midsomer Norton. Six charming bedrooms are comfortable and exude the dated charm. Enjoy breakfast in the garden or in your room, before exploring the local area. ”

Photo of The Old Priory

“The Old Priory is something of an oasis. Once in its ancient courtyard you’d never guess that a scrappy provincial High Street was round the corner. You’ll find listed ecclesiastical panelling in the hall, three enormous original fireplaces, ancient beams, flagstone floors and a secret passage running from the kitchen to the church. Upstairs there are seven dark, quaint bedrooms, while the food (parfait of foie gras or pink-roasted venison with quince puree) in the cosy Moody Goose restaurant is excellent.”

They say

“Situated just 15 minutes from Bath, Wells and Bristol, in the market town of Midsomer Norton, The Old Priory Hotel with it's beams and inglenooks, is reputed to be one of the oldest houses in Somerset, and dates back to c.1152. This historically significant house was later purchased by Christchurch College, Oxford and was owned by them until 1712 when it was sold to a private buyer. A secret tunnel is said to have existed linking the nearby 15th century church to The Priory, which was likely to have been used for escape and refuge in the days of religious persecution.”
