“The Pig in Brockenhurst is little sister to Lime Wood and also situated in the beautiful New Forest. Here the vibe is very informal, and the impression is one of a country haven where you can truly chill out. The Pig describes itself as a restaurant with rooms (despite the fact that there are twenty six of them), and the walled garden is very much the centre of attention. If an ingredient cannot be foraged, grown in the garden or sourced within twenty five miles, then it will not appear on your plate. This of course means super fresh and interesting food, and menus that change on a daily basis. Indeed if you fancy a spot of foraging yourself, it can be arranged! Rooms range from “snug” and “comfy” to spoiling “hideaways”, but all have large comfortable beds, huge showers, nespresso machines, “larders” brimful of snacks and a great view either of the forest or garden. The décor is stylish and understated, with the emphasis on comfort. If you want to be pampered too, then pop down to the Potting Shed (literally converted from the garden shed!) where there is a wide range of spoiling treatments on offer from de-stressing massage to the two hour signature “Pig” treatment.”

“Why do people love staying in your hotel?
THE PIG in The New Forest is all about the walled garden. Everything is driven by the gardener, forager and chef - they grow and find the food; the chef then creates the 25-mile menu (what we can't get from our garden and grounds is sourced locally). This immediacy from garden to plate is THE PIG's trademark!
Home grown in every way; our 26 bedroom country house is original, relaxed and sitting comfortably within its environment. It isn't perfect! But it's comfy, interesting and homely with muted colours, a bit shabby chic, evolved rather than interior designed.
What is there to do in the area or on site?
Everyone loves a Potting Shed to hide in, but in our shed you can also have a great massage. An original garden shed that has been transformed into a single treatment room with charming features such as the rake-turned-curtain rail.
We also have an outdoor tennis court available complimentary to residents on a first-come first-served basis.
A gentle stroll down the gravel and brick path will lead to further surprises; our smoke house, kitchen garden, greenhouse, fruit cages, wild flower meadow orchard, chickens and a paddock with our five very active pigs!
Or simply enjoy exploring The New Forest on your doorstep…
The obvious attraction that most of our guests enjoy is the outstanding natural beauty and wildlife. All within a short drive of the hotel you will also find: - Stately homes, picturesque towns and villages such as Burley and Beaulieu, Buckler’s Hard, horse riding and sailing.
There is so much more to see and do near THE PIG that you may have to stay a little while longer - we guarantee you simply won't want to leave!
What kind of breakfast do you offer?
We offer both a Light Buffet Breakfast and Full Cooked Breakfast. The Light Buffet Breakfast is charged at £10 per person and includes a selection of pastries, homemade granola, muesli, cereals, homemade fruit compotes, yoghurts, breads, fruit, cheese and they can even boil an egg from our very own chickens!
Our Full Cooked Breakfast, ‘The Pig Out’ is charged at £15 per person and includes Hampshire middle cut bacon, sausage, Portobello mushroom, black and white pudding, grilled tomato and scrambled eggs.
Do you offer other meals? And can you recommend good places to eat out locally?
Eating at THE PIG is a truly one-of-a-kind experience…
The kitchen is overseen by Chef James Golding whose two key lieutenants aren't his sous chefs but his forager and his kitchen gardener.
Uncomplicated and simple British garden food, true to the micro seasons and influenced by the forest and coast, with the emphasis squarely on fresh, clean flavours.
What can't be grown in our Kitchen Garden, or in the extensive vegetable and fruit beds, is sourced locally - our further commitment to the 25 mile menu.
Lunch and Dinner is served in an authentically reproduced Victorian greenhouse dining room, complete with bare wood table tops and mismatched bone handled cutlery.
Between 3.30pm – 5.30pm we offer an Afternoon Snack Menu for our guests to grab a quick bite. The menu includes sandwiches, cakes, treats and homemade biscuits.
There are plenty of local Restaurants and Pubs, information of which can be sourced from our Reception Team.
Which are your most popular room types, and why?
The most popular room type at THE PIG would be our ‘Hideaway’ Rooms. The Hen House, The Dog House and Tamworth are all located in the Stable Yard and have unique features, large monsoon showers and a freestanding bath.
What message would you like to give Hotel Guru readers?
As readers of Hotel Guru, we would be delighted to offer a complimentary upgrade on the day. Subject to availability.”

At 10pm on a Thursday evening in November, The Pig was packed. Fifty or 60 punters, sitting in a mocked-up Daylesford greenhouse on wrought-iron chairs at non-matching tables, eating traditional English pig, venison, faggots, steak and Dorset russet apple tartlet, and glancing up now and again at the magnificent dresser, lit up like a high altar – it could hardly have been a more English sight if the Earl of Grantham had suddenly strode in
