“Home of the stunning new Jerwood gallery, Hastings has aquired an arty hotel to match it’s trendy vibe. Lovingly restored by owners – photographer-turned-ceramicist Lorna Lloyd and film-producer husband Bryan Dyke - as it’s name suggests The Printworks is housed in a vast Victorian redbrick building that was once home to the local newspaper. There are two rooms – and soon to be two more – named for print moguls Gutenberg and Caxton. Caxton is the larger with ensuite bathroom, whilst Gutenberg has a separate black-and white-tiled bathroom with original thirties faucets and a claw footed bathtub. Housed in the attic, both rooms have huge wooden ceiling beams, fifties-style fixtures-and-fittings, facilities for making coffee and big comfy beds. Breakfast – fresh berry smoothies, locally made jams and hot food made to order - is taken in the ballroom-sized kitchen/dining area, with its high white panelled ceiling, exposed brickwork and quirky deco items. Close to Hastings old town and within easy reach of lauded local eateries, The Printworks is ideal for a weekend break in this newly hip seaside town.”
