Hotel Review

The streets of medieval Lavenham in Suffolk are lined with historic, timber-framed buildings and The Swan at Lavenham is one of them. Parts of this well-converted hotel date back to the 15th century and it oozes character – think wooden beams and charmingly crooked walls – whilst not scrimping on modern comforts. The bedrooms vary from the smaller Lavenham rooms to larger suites complete with four-poster beds. There’s a relaxed feel with numerous seating areas – both indoor and out – tucked away, while the Airmen’s Bar is a nod to the US airmen stationed nearby during the Second World War. Attached to the bar is a relaxed dining area, while the spacious main restaurant, The Gallery, is a beautiful half-timbered room offering fine dining. Guests can unwind at The Weavers’ House Spa, which includes steam and sauna rooms, an outdoor hot tub and pampering treatments a-plenty.

Why do people love staying in your hotel?

The Swan at Lavenham Hotel and Spa is nestled into a traditional Tudor town, and has been hosting guests for over 500 years. Originally a coaching inn, The Swan was a welcome break to many travellers over the years. Once housing horses, as well as guests in what now is our rather idyllic secluded courtyard, this stunning Tudor property has assembled three buildings together and boasts 46 bedrooms and a self-catering holiday cottage at the luxurious ‘Priory’ just opposite the hotel. The Swan offers a truly warm and inviting stay nestled in the Woollen town of Lavenham.

Our guests choose to stay with us because of the buildings rich history, along with the charm that the village is so rich in supply.  Hands down, our hotel is about luxury, and it certainly lends itself to celebrating those special events in life. Weavers’ House Spa, our contemporary boutique spa, offering a thermal heat suite and outdoor heated vitality pool, along with truly exceptional treatments with a holistic approach, provides an even ‘deeper’ love and reason to stay with us for our guests.

What is there to do in the area?

Lavenham, a truly magical village, has remained meticulously manicured for hundreds of years. Original Tudor features adorn the higgeldy piggily properties, a feast for the eyes and historian in us all!  Unique independent shops throughout, make it easy to simply meander around at your leisure.  You can also pack your walking boots, along with your ‘pooch’ as the hotel is dog friendly, and there are some simply stunning walks on the periphery of town.

What facilities do you have for children and can you fit extra beds in your rooms ?

Children of all ages are most welcome to dine with their parents in the family friendly Brasserie 487 restaurant; over 12s are also welcome in The Gallery restaurant in the evening.  Some of the larger rooms have convertible sofa beds.

The Swan at Lavenham

The Swan is without question the safe option around these parts, but it delivers on most fronts, with comfortable rooms, decent food and high levels of service – and a particularly lovely spa only adds to the appeal.
