The Trout at Tadpole Bridge Oxfordshire

“A welcoming Inn, backing on to a rural section of the Thames with its own private mooring, & set amidst lovely gardens. Six comfortable rooms, "classic country" in style, located around a pretty courtyard away from the bustle. The award winning restaurant steals the show. A wonderful country treat.”

“An urbane, rural idyll, The Trout sits on the Thames at Tadpole Bridge (near Bampton, the charming Oxfordshire town you'll recognise from Downton Abbey). Refurbished under the new ownership of Cirrus Inns, the landlord Riccardo is aided and abetted by an enthusiastic young team. The six bedrooms, three on the ground floor, are tucked away around a courtyard brimming with wild roses and each is luxuriously furnished with smart fabrics, large brass or sleigh beds, powerful rain showers and two with claw-foot tubs. There's a large characterful bar (think exposed cotswolds stone walls, exposed beams and roaring fires in winter), which is very popular with locals - always a good sign! But it's the Trout Restaurant, specialising in fresh fish and local game, which really steals the show. The emphasis is on wholesome fare at realistic prices, great service and a wide range of wines and beers. Breakfasts, which are included in the room rate, have won an AA award and should not be skipped! Just half an hour from Oxford or The Cotswolds and with plenty to do (it's a great centre for walkers & cyclists and is popular with anglers too) and see in the area it is a great little property for a weekend escape.”
