| What We Offer | | | Our Top Ten Hotels | | For each city or region, we simply list Our Top Ten Hotels. You will not find standardised chain hotels on our lists. We prefer hotels that have charm and character, that are operated with professionalism and commitment, and that represent value for money, however much or little they offer in terms of amenities. We believe that a hotel’s location is at least as important as its comfort. Above all we love travelling, and prefer hotels that reflect and enhance the places we are visiting, rather than act as bubbles, cut off from reality. Hence you will find windmills, lighthouses and thatched cottages in Britain, farmhouses in Tuscany, riads in Marrakesh, palazzos in Venice. | | Price bracket | | Our hotels fall into three categories, to suit every pocket: luxury, mid-price and inexpensive, the majority being mid-price. Prices stated are given in local currency and are for high season, if applicable. | | Contact details | | Under the name of each hotel we list its location. You can find further contact details – website address, telephone and fax number, and email address – by clicking on to the photograph or hotel name and going to the hotel’s own website. Where a hotel has not paid the service charge for a direct link, you will go to a page where we list all that hotel’s contact details, including email address and telephone number, for your convenience. | | Description | | We describe each Top Ten Hotel, explaining our reasons for including it. If we think there are shortcomings, we say so. Two photographs help to give an instant impression of the property. | | Direct link | | Click on to the hotel name or its photographs and if they’ve paid for a link, you will go to its own website so you can find out more. If there isn’t a link, we still give you the hotel’s contact details, including website. Some hotel websites allow you to book online; in other cases you will need to phone or email. The vast majority of receptionists at the hotels we recommend speak English. | | Some websites are more sophisticated than others, and a handful of our choices may not have a website at all. The quality of a hotel’s website is not necessarily an indication of the quality of the hotel itself; rather it should be regarded as a window on what you might expect there. | | Unbiased, impartial advice and our unique Travel Assistance Service | Unlike most hotel websites we are not booking agents and we encourage users to book direct with the hotels we feature. They have NOT PAID to be included on The Hotel Guru, though hotels can pay a fee to have additional material published on the site, such as weblinks, extra images and their own descriptions in addition to our impartial reviews. However, we would appreciate it if you mentioned The Hotel Guru when you book a hotel you have found through our site. We also offer a Specialist Advice Service for those who want ideas of where to stay, direct with one of our hotel experts. Fees for this service start at £40 or $75, and consultation is done via email. If you require further details, or want to send an enquiry, please email jamesw (at) thehotelguru.com. Payment can be made by credit card, and a credit card will also be required to secure a reservation at a hotel. Consultation fees paid to the hotel guru are non-refundable - whether you choose to act on the advice or not. Credit cards given to hotels to secure a reservation are subject to that hotel's individual cancellation terms and conditions. For full terms and conditions of this service, please please see our payment terms. | | We don’t sell, we recommend | | We just recommend the hotels we like. We can’t guarantee that you will like them too, but we will always welcome your comments. Hotels reviewed on the site who would like to take advantage of having their weblinks published, as well as additional images and descriptions, please contact us. For payment conditions, please see our payment terms. | | |
