Hotel Review
There’s a buzzing atmosphere in this much loved airy brasserie cum bar with high ceilings, wooden floors and pleasing pastel colours. Open all day, the tasty ‘dishes of the day’ are chalked up on boards and there is a warm welcome from the friendly young staff. There’s always a good mix: glamorous Essex girls lunch on seafood from Harwich or a quiet business deal is clinched over a plate of Dedham Vale beef, while grandparents treat their grandchildren to local bangers and mash. There might be a small wedding in Mr Gs private dining room overlooking the pretty gardens or a birthday celebration. Although close to the A12, the 15 comfortable bedrooms (deluxe, superior and standard) are quiet and all individually designed. The original pictures are by local artist Claire Gillen. Linen sheets, perfect mattresses, flat screen TV/DVD, old fashioned telephones, early morning coffee and papers delivered to your door.
