Hotel Review

Its core is a characterful old building in the centre of Fowey, with a new extension overlooking the estuary and harbour. The harmonious interior is embellished by funky artworks, and the informal restaurant spills out on to a teak deck with spectacular waterfront views. Bedrooms are traditional in the old part of the building, contemporary in the new, all with state of the art technology. One is in a glass turret – magical.

See What They Say

Why do people love staying in your hotel? We aim to offer a relaxed informal environment where our guests can simply sit back and unwind. Service is efficient without being stuffy, discreet yet friendly, and we always go the extra mile to make sure our guests feel at home. They also love our big comfy beds and the views out over the estuary.

What is there to do in the area or on site? The Old Quay House is a small hotel but really well located for exploring the galleries, boutiques and waterfront cafes of Fowey, which also has a rich literary heritage (events throughout the year). The surrounding coastline is perfect for walks and there are beaches and plenty of traditional, welcoming pubs nearby. It is also just a short drive to some of Cornwall’s fantastic and inspiring gardens and National Trust properties – the Eden Project, the Lost Gardens of Heligan, Tregothnan and Lanhydrock.

What kind of breakfast do you offer? An à la carte selection of dishes ranging from beans on toast and eggs benedict to the full Cornish breakfast which features locally produced sausages, bacon and hog’s pudding (a speciality of Cornwall). We also offer a breakfast buffet of cereals, fruit, muesli and fresh fruit juices.

Do you offer other meals? And can you recommend good places to eat out locally? Yes, our restaurant ‘Q’ overlooks the harbour and offers a creative menu incorporating local, season produce, served in a relaxed setting – think West Country meats, Cornish cheeses and locally caught fish and seafood. In the summer the terrace is ideal as a spot for lunch or afternoon tea (served the Cornish way of course, jam on first then the cream). There are plenty of friendly pubs and cafés in Fowey too – our neighbours The Bistro serve up French and Mediterranean style dishes with a focus on seafood.

What is special about your hotel? Location – right on the harbour front, there is nowhere better from which to soak up the atmosphere of life on the estuary, watch the boats drift by and in August, enjoy the sights and sounds of Fowey’s annual regatta.
