About Gaillac

The often underrated Tarn region’s winemaking hub, Gaillac is a wonderful destination for fans of top-notch food and wine, as well as relaxed outdoorsy explorers. Less than an hour from Toulouse and historic Albi, this riverside community is popular with both French and international travellers. Fit for a range of tastes and budgets, the best places to stay in Gaillac include private villas as well as laid-back guesthouses and chic hotels.

Amble around the town centre to admire the Abbey Saint-Michel and its verdant gardens, the Château de Foucard and the Fontaine de Griffoul, amongst other heritage buildings. Strolls along the Tarn River come highly recommended, as do visits to the unusual Musée d'Histoire Naturelle Philadelphe Thomas. Wine lovers will be delighted with the Maison des Vins, a winemakers’ cooperative which stocks 100+ local vintages. Sample the region’s best produce at the boutique, or venture beyond the town centre to the gorgeous wineries which surround it. There, you can enjoy expert-led tours and tastings, as well as guided cycling and horse riding excursions between picturesque rows of vines.

Don’t miss kayaking, fishing and boating opportunities on the river, or savouring regional dishes at waterfront cafes and eateries. The best places to stay in Gaillac boast refreshing swimming pools for lazy afternoon dips after busy days out!
