Hotel Review

Grays is a great new addition to Bath’s B&B market – the latest project from the couple that brought you the successful Brindleys, also in the city. Run by chirpy chap Jamie and wife Anel, this 12-bed Victorian villa is situated on a quiet residential street about a 12-minute walk from the centre. Granted, it’s a slight hike uphill, but worth it for the stunning views towards Royal Crescent. The key to its success is simplicity. Not that it isn’t charming and elegant, but this bed and breakfast is firmly routed in its Britishness. There’s nothing OTT here – you won’t be dumbfounded by high-tech gadgets beloved by city-boy weekenders – just lovely interiors (think White Company meets John Lewis with a touch of French Provençal). Expect luxury toiletries, fresh milk you can help yourself to from the downstairs fridge (handy for chilling your evening tipple), plus breakfast cooked to order in the bright conservatory. Staying here is like staying with stylish friends for a weekend in their enviable house, but as with staying with friends, don't necessarily expect to have your suitcase carried. It doesn’t smack of paid-for hospitality, it’s familiar and friendly; you’ll feel right at home.

See What They Say

Why do people love staying in your hotel? Guests constantly say they enjoy the hospitality and service we offer as a family run business and they also like the ‘home from home’ style and décor of the hotel.

What is there to do in the area? Bath is a beautiful, small city with an amazing heritage, history and architecture, as well as offering a wealth of independent shops, restaurants and plenty of things to do and see.

What kind of breakfast do you offer? We offer a wide range of options, from continental breakfast to cooked breakfast choices such as a ‘Full English’ to Eggs Benedict and also an extensive range of vegetarian options.

Do you offer other meals? And can you recommend good places to eat out locally? We are a ‘bed and breakfast’ only hotel and why would we offer restaurant facilities when Bath has an enormous choice of restaurants and eateries, many of which we are happy to recommend.

Which are your most popular room types, and why? We are a ‘grown ups’ hotel so a significant percentage of our guests are couples getting away for a romantic break, so our Deluxe rooms and especially our four poster room are very popular. We also have a lot of demand for our twin rooms, often from girlfriends escaping husbands and kids for a city break.

What message would you like to give Hotel Guru readers? We believe that there are a few prerequisites that a boutique bed and breakfast must have – relaxing décor, very comfortable beds, immaculate bathrooms, fresh linens, fluffy towels, welcoming guest areas, fresh flowers and a hearty breakfast with plenty of choice. These are the essentials. This is what Grays is all about.
