Hotel Review

Koh Lanta island sits in Thailand's southwestern province of Krabi; long a favourite with backpackers, luxury resorts have now started to populate the region, taking advantage of the slow pace, relaxed atmosphere and beautiful natural landscape. Pimalai Resort was one of the first such resorts to open and remains a top contender when it comes to high-end resorts in this part of Thailand. The hotel boasts a privileged coastal setting, with direct access to half a mile of white-sand beaches. On the other side of the hotel, an expanse of tropical forest stretches out for acres. Guest accommodation has been constructed using a variety of locally sourced materials to reduce disruption of the landscape; in the suites, teak hardwood floors lead to bamboo and stone pavilions with pretty sea views. There is an emphasis on Thai design, with local textiles used for linens and a hand-selected collection of regional artworks on display. The hotel offers a range of accommodation styles, with good family options available. Private villas provide multiple bedrooms, plus a living area and a good-sized pool. The resort is perhaps better suited to older children, given that the main attraction of this area is diving and watersports. The resort hosts a PADI diving centre onsite where professionals can help you get started with diving, snorkelling and other watersports. For pampering, the hotel's jungle spa is exemplary in island relaxation; have a massage among tropical trees or on the seafront before a hot bath in the forest. Two, spectacular infinity pools promise romantic evening sunsets. For dining, the resort offers four restaurants, and many other bars and restaurants are within walking distance along the beach. A stylish and understated luxury resort with good facilities.

Pimalai Resort and Spa

Ko Lanta’s first five-star hotel cascades through the tropical forest to Kantiang Bay, one of Thailand’s finest beaches. Excellent restaurants and facilities, including a cliffside pool and award-winning spa, ensure that Pimalai – Sanskrit for ‘a little patch of heaven’ – more than lives up to its name.
