Hotel Review

Situated within the medieval walls of Southampton, THE PIG – in the wall is the smallest of THE PIGs but by no means the least. Living up to the hotel’s standards of greenery, cosy décor and rustic food, the hotel has recently changed its menu to a deli bar, serving up a variety of vibrant salads, the famous sausage rolls and homemade cakes and biscuits. Although a lot smaller than its PIG siblings, the menu is still rammed full of flavour and locally sourced produced. With two rooms situated downstairs and ten rooms tucked away within the narrow and historic walls of the building, the 12 bed hotel really does live up to THE PIG’s self-description of a restaurant with rooms. What better than to relax next to the open lit fire with a glass of a fizz and a slice of cake before retreating upstairs to bed? It is the only place to stay if you're planning a city break to Southampton, or simply plan to stay either pre or post cruise.

Whether it be an overnight stay or a place to refuel with a glass of wine and bite to eat, the restaurant, although tiny, really is the cosiest place to stop in Southampton. Do you offer any other meals and can you recommend good restaurants for lunch and dinner? Throughout the day we serve a menu that is deli orientated. Within our little kitchen, produce sourced from THE PIG hotel and local business is used within each dish we create. From homemade soups to meat boards to mixed salad bowls, THE PIG – in the wall is still very much influenced by THE PIG ethos of garden to plate dining. For those who are hoping for a larger menu, a member of our team can take you over and pick you up from THE PIG or our sister hotel, Lime Wood for either lunch or dinner. Which are your most popular rooms and why? The biggest rooms at THE PIG – in the wall are the two Spacious rooms based at the front of the hotel. Both rooms have a four-poster bed and a roll top bath, as well as a monsoon shower room and are decorated as elegantly and effortlessly chic as the other PIGs in the litter.

The Pig in the wall hotel, Hampshire: Review

Gorgeous. The front door opens into the Edwardian country style parlour, with armchairs, sofas and pine dining table, and instead of a reception desk, there’s an inviting, well stocked deli bar for all day grazing, coffees, teas, wines by the glass and spirits.

Our favourite affordable hotels

Bedrooms (just 12) are compact, bathrooms generous. Bar snacks by the fire include strips of pork crackling and unctuous slices of sausage roll.
