Hotel Review

A truly welcoming English hotel, giving a special kind of stay. There are thoughtful details throughout, from the larders in the bedrooms featuring snacks, to the bathtubs in the suites which overlook a 20 acre deer park. All produce in the restaurant is grown there, or sourced within a 25 mile radius, and it works. It goes without saying the slow-cooked pig cheek with piccalilli is wonderful! A snack menu is available in the afternoon for smaller bites after returning from exploring the nearby Bath or Bristol. No room disappoints, but for an extra special stay go for a 'Hideaway' with a wood-burning stove and four-poster bed.

The Pig hotel, near Bath, Somerset: review

Every object, from the simplest terracotta pots upwards, has been hunted down by them and, along with stripped floors, painted sawn timber clad walls, velvet curtains, chandeliers and cleverly mismatched rugs and fabrics, the result is grand yet informal, with not a jarring note.

The Pig Near Bath, Pensford, Somerset: hotel revie

There's a snug library stocked with Penguin classics, a lounge bar and the gently wafting scent of woodsmoke everywhere, although it's also airy and modish. Twenty-nine rooms, in tasteful shades of green and mushroom, are big for the price.

The Pig, Near Bath

Thoughtful touches are what really lift The Pig near Bath into the premier league of boutique hotels - whether it is the wonky floorboards reclaimed from French railway carriages, the portraits of the house's previous inhabitants, the multicoloured Hunter wellies lined up in the hall, or the Nespresso machines in the rooms.
