Hotel Review

It's easy to see why, arriving on a beautiful sunny day, Talbooth House and Spa has so many return guests. In the heart of glorious Dedham Vale this re-branded hotel and spa is more house than hotel making it a very private place to stay. Downstairs there's a small bar and cosy sitting room with velvet sofas and chairs. There's no restaurant, which I rather liked, as it means you go 'out' for supper at nearby sister hotel Milsoms or there's fine dining on a pretty river setting at Le Talbooth. No need to worry about drinking and driving as there is a courtesy car that will drop you off and pick you up at a time to suit you.

Owner Geraldine Milsom has decorated the house and rooms with velvet faux gothic winged armchairs, and faux fur throws which may not be everyone's cup of tea but with such smiley and friendly service from the young professional team of staff who cares?

The twelve luxurious suites are spacious with large en-suite bathrooms, ‘Wordsworth’ and ‘Shelley’ have the best views though I stayed in Betjeman which had stunning views across the fields to Dedham church. The spa re-opened in April 2022 after a modern expansion with the addition of treatment rooms and inside/outside sitting area with open fire place. It's an idyllic spot and a great place to come with a girl friend for a half day spa and there are still three treatment rooms in the house. The list of Elemis spa treatments is extensive from anti-ageing facials, to body treatments and packages. The usual beauty treatments including spray tan, nails and eye lash lifts are also available.

If you're happy with a continental breakfast then it will be delivered to your room but if you're after a more hearty start to the day book a time at nearby Milsoms and you'll be whisked away in the morning and brought back in time to grab a spot by the pool where you can help yourself to complimentary coffee, tea and soft drinks throughout the day.

See What They Say

Why do people love staying in your hotel?

Talbooth House and Spa is the perfect place to step back, relax and indulge in the heart of Constable Country. Special mention must go to Le Talbooth restaurant which is the highlight of our guests stay in Dedham. The restaurant is set in an idyllic position beside the river Stour. Zack Deakins is our head chef and we’re receiving some great reviews about his cooking

What is there to do in the area?

Shopping, walking, hunting for antiques, sailing – or just chilling around the pool at Talbooth House and Spa

What kind of breakfast do you offer? Full English served in the Garden Room overlooking Dedham Vale or on the terrace if it’s warm enough!

Do you offer other meals? And can you recommend good places to eat out locally? Light lunches and delicious afternoon teas in the hotel. Lunch or dinner at Milsoms (our brasserie) or Le Talbooth (both a minute away by courtesy car)

Which are your most popular room types, and why?

Principal rooms definitely the most popular. Though I prefer Betjeman on the second floor with far reaching views over the Vale and Dedham village, a view that remains unchanged since it was painted by John Constable in the 1700’s

What message would you like to give Hotel Guru readers? Talbooth House and Spa has everything you need for a relaxing break in this very special part of East Anglia. Spend time exploring the area or just relax at the hotel and enjoy all it has to offer.
