About Biella

Tucked in the foothills of the Biellese Alps, Biella charms with its mix of medieval mansions, a cathedral, and mountain views. If you’re here for hotels, you’re in luck—Biella offers everything from stylish design stays to relaxed, family-friendly bases. For a luxury escape, look to elegant countryside villas just outside town, while budget-friendly spots cluster conveniently around Biella Piano. For history and romance, head up to Biella Piazzo, where boutique hotels echo the area’s Renaissance flair.

Just outside the city, you’ll find the Sacred Mount of Oropa, a striking sanctuary of twelve chapels that together tell the story of the Virgin Mary with vivid artwork and over 150 lifelike figures. The area also offers plenty of outdoor escapes, from the nearby Bielmonte Ski Resort to the peaceful Burcina Natural Reserve and rolling moorlands to the south. Within Biella itself, history and culture unfold at every turn. You can track down official highlights like the 13th-century cathedral, Renaissance churches, and the archaeological museum, or simply wander and stumble upon elegant bell towers, grand façades, and reminders of the city’s rich textile past. Biella is still a hub for fashion today, but it’s also a delight for food lovers, with local cheeses, Piedmont wines, and sweet treats that make lingering here especially rewarding.

For a Countryside Escape

  • Santo Stefano Spa Relais makes a fantastic country escape: a picturesque rural villa complete with tennis courts, an outdoor pool, bikes, horse riding facilities, and a golf course just a few kilometres away. The spa is so good it’s part of the name, and the restaurant has a great reputation for its regional cuisine. Its 40 rooms and suites are stylishly decorated without too many flourishes, and there are some great family-sized options. We also think it’s great value.
