Hotel Review

A 30 minute drive from Faro airport, through endless cork groves and white-washed towns with storks nesting on chimneys, will bring you to this beautiful old farmhouse. It has been lovingly converted by Flemish owners Frank and Veronique who gave up the hurly-burly of the banking world for the tranquillity of Algarvian life.

New this year (2020) are two rooms with en-suite bathrooms which have been converted from the old stables They join the existing five suites which are spread out in the farmhouse, two of which are family rooms large enough to accommodate two adults and two children. Each of them comes with a private terrace and a hammock or outside seating to enjoy the typical blue skies of the Algarve. Interiors are minimalist and draw on local craftsmen and materials to give a real sense of place. Floors come in the traditional Santa Caterina rust-red tiles. Exteriors are traditional: white-washed walls, topped by terracotta tiles and the typically decorative Moorish chimney.

There are lovely gardens in which you'll find a black mosaic swimming pool. There is an honesty bar on hand and light meals of salads and snacks are provided in the high season.

See What They Say

Why do people love staying in your hotel? Our guests love the atmosphere and decoration of the house, the views, the tranquillity, the space but also the personal touch and last but not least our tailor made breakfast. We combine the style and luxury of a boutique hotel with the unpretentiousness and welcome of a B&B.

What is there to do in the area? The Farmhouse is located 15km inland, in the midst of nature while at the same time you have the whole of the Algarve within your reach. There are several pretty cities to visit (Faro, Tavira, Loulé), beautiful walks to be made, biking trips among deserted roads, horse riding, boat tours on the Ria Formosa (one of the 7 natural wonders of Portugal). Besides this, guests can visit one of the many local activities: a working cork-factory, a local terracotta producer, a world class olive oil producer, biological herb nursery or go to one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

What kind of breakfast do you offer? We offer a tailor made breakfast, consisting of freshly pressed orange juice from Algarve oranges, freshly made smoothies, pancakes, toasts and different kind of breads, porridge with fruits, cereals, yoghourts, homemade marmalades and a wide choice of eggs prepared a la minute. Breakfast changes daily and is served at the guests’ table (no breakfast buffet) on the outside terrace. Everything is prepared fresh in the kitchen. We can tailor breakfast for any dietary requirements (lactose or gluten)

Do you offer other meals? And can you recommend good places to eat out locally? We have a small lunch menu and we offer 3-course dinner twice a week. There are several good and inexpensive restaurants in a 5 km area. We have available a list of recommended restaurants in the area available and we are happy to make reservations upon request. We also have a well stocked honesty bar with local wines and spirits.

Which are your most popular room types, and why? We have 7 suites. They have in common that they are all spacious and styled similarly but all have a different feel, size and lay-out. Many of our returning guests like to try out the different suites because it gives them a new experience. Our most popular room is Suite 4 on the first floor. Next to being very spacious (50m2), it has 2 private terraces, one of which is on the rooftop. The rooftop terrace contains a poster bed for outdoor sleeping during hot Algarve nights. A very unique experience.

What facilities do you have for children and can you fit extra beds in your rooms ? We have 2 family suites for up to 2 adults and 2 kids. Those suites consist of 2 bedrooms separated by a door so that both have privacy. We do not have extra beds. For toddlers up to 2 years, we will provide a travel cot. A baby bath and bottle warmer are also available.

Farmhouse of the Palms

This 200-year-old whitewashed farmhouse has been beautifully restored by Flemish owners Frank and Veronique, who have carved five spacious bedrooms out of the sun-dappled stone interiors, each with their own private terrace. A swimming pool lies in the gardens and hammocks swing from the trees.
