Hotel Review
A charming Georgian dower house owned by Tim and Emma Ford and run as an unpretentious and instantly relaxing restaurant with rooms. Bedrooms are soothing and homely, with deliciously comfy beds, some with views over the lawn and a spectacular spruce tree. In the homely sitting, where drinks and canapés are served before dinner, an open fire crackles in the hearth, while the dining room is smart but in keeping with the family feel. Here Tim's highly regarded cooking is served at lunch and dinner, as well as breakfast. A delightful haven. Don't miss the amusing follies in the grounds of Barwick House.

Our guests say that we have a "very relaxing effect", that the food is "delicious", our "wine list is full of interesting bottles". and combined with the fact that we are small and privately owned we have "personality"
What is there to do in the area?
Set in a rural location yet only 10 minutes off the A303 (ideal stop over to break a trip to Devon or Cornwall), we are surrounded by countryside and a network of walks.We lie close to the lovely Dorset towns of Sherborne and Dorchester. Montacute, Lytes Cary, Tintinhul and Hadspen are National Trust properties within easy reach as well as private properties open to the public - Forde Abbey, Mapperton and Minterne. The Jurassic Coast for Fossil Hunting, Abbotsbury Swannery and dramatic coastal footpaths are only 40 minutes drive away. Fleet Air Arm, Bovington Tank and Haynes Motor Museums for an alternative interest and for the adrenaline junkies Go Karting, Clay Pigeon Shooting, Quad Bike Safaris and Horse Riding/Hunting can all be arranged locally.
What kind of breakfast do you offer?
We have a table set up with a selection of Cereals including homemade Muesli, Fruit Compote, Greek Yoghurt and Fresh Fruit Juices to help yourself. We also offer Porridge with Brown Sugar and Double Cream. Cooked Breakfasts are made to order using Free Range Eggs, local Dry Cure Smoked Back Bacon, Pork Sausage, Grilled Tomato, Mushrooms and Black Pudding. Granary and White Toast, Croissant and Pain au Chocolat follow - all accompanied by a range of Teas and Columbian Coffee.
Do you offer other meals? And can you recommend good places to eat out locally?
On arrival on the first day of a stay, guests are welcomed warmly with a complimentary cream tea including homemade cake, scones and shortbread. Our restaurant is open for Dinner from Tuesday to Saturday 7 - 9pm and Lunch Wednesday to Saturday 12 - 2.00pm. Sunday Lunch available for parties of 20 or more by special request.
Which are your most popular room types, and why?
Our most popular rooms are the super king size which overlook the garden. These rooms have a larger floor space and a sofa for reading.
