Hotel Review

Plaka, Athens' old town district, has something of a village feel to it; cobblestoned streets wind between picturesque houses, local cafés and artesanal shops. It's certainly one of the most idyllic parts of the bustling capital, and a great place for a hotel. Alice Inn is the brainchild of Irish-Greek architect John Consolas; a labour of love, the boutique apartments are filled with family heirlooms and gems from the local flea markets. This gives the place a wonderfully homely feel, as does the pretty fireplace in the Mighty Aphrodite Suite. The cherry on the cake has to be the Harry Belafonte Suite, which opens out onto its own private roof terrace. All the suites have thoughtful design touches and good facilities, with additional bed options. For a larger group, why not enquire about exclusive rental of the building? A unique option for city accommodation.

The Ultimate Guide to Athens, Greece

You'll be lucky to score one of the four bedrooms at Alice Inn, designed and run by Irish-Greek architect John Consolas on a quiet backstreet of Plaka, the pretty old-town district. Better still, take over the whole house. Each room is decorated with a mix of flea-market finds and family heirlooms; even the smaller ones are completely charming.
