Hotel Review

Straight from the world of Mary Poppins, Casa Fortunato is practically perfect in every way. Step inside and you will meet the warm and welcoming owners António and Filipa, their four beautiful children and their sweet-natured black Labrador, Cocoa.

Previously the office of architect António, this early 20th century house, which curves around the corner of a leafy street in central Lisbon, stands out with its elegant wrought iron balcony and large sash windows which let the sunlight stream in. The nine sensational suites, categorised as big, bigger and biggest, are decorated individually with hand-woven rugs atop wooden floors, bold Farrow & Ball painted walls, hand-picked retro furniture and vivid Jupiter 10 geometric wallpapers. Bathrooms, with vast rain showers and generous tubs, flicker with scented Diptyque candles, fresh flowers grace the wooden desks and there are trays of house tea prepared for you.

Downstairs, the walls of the elegant salon are hung with modern art. A dining area is at one end of it, with an honesty bar. The house chef serves macro-biotic cuisine so expect a breakfast buffet to contain dishes such as white miso soup and scrambled tofu.

There are daily yoga class available and in-house massages are on request.
