Hotel Review

If you like your hotels interesting and unconventional, and don't mind not being in the centre of things, check out this place. A conversion of an electricity power station, it's no thing of beauty - bold, red-brick exterior with narrow windows - but its industrial-style interiors are striking:  hard-rubber floors, metal staircases, and exposed pipes and ducting in primary colours. There's a sense of fun too, with vintage-style illuminated signs and mirrored corridors. Bedrooms and suites are similarly raw but attractively minimalist - open wardrobes, sculptural hairs, desks on castor wheels - with a relaxing sense of space; many are split-level. Be warned, bathrooms are open-plan, too. There's an all-day cafe-bar-deli with brasserie-style food, plus a roof terrace. The place is popular with locals, and has a chilled-out vibe.  The drawback is that it's around two kms from the centre, though on a tramline. However, you do feel more a local than a visitor - and there's a water-taxi stop within a five-minute walk.
